This was the adventure of a lifetime! We worked with vendors from around the country for this shoot that was featured on the Wedding Chicks blog. Alchemy Events dreamt of a stunning inspirational shoot in an ice cave inside a glacier that would forgo typical winter wedding colors & instead, find inspiration in the stunning rainbow of the northern lights!
We drove to the base of the glacier & loaded everything into sleds being pulled by snow machines. We then rode the last mile to the location & proceeded to haul everything down into the ice cave. Temperatures were below freezing & by the time we were ready to start shooting, the wind had picked up, turning our beautiful ice cave into a wind tunnel. Our model did a fantastic job in the freezing weather & still managed to look beautiful! Opals were the perfect accompaniment to our aurora borealis inspiration & brought in those beautiful colors that all the vendors worked into the shoot.
This shoot was not without it’s difficulties & surprises: the flowers were frozen solid, the edible flowers on the cake were brittle to the touch & the wind kept blowing the candles out. Even though we knew that extreme cold zaps batteries & brought many backups, we never could get the drone to start up for more than 30 seconds at a time meaning we didn’t get any video or aerial shots of the shoot. Eventually we also cut the shoot short because of the extreme temperatures, rushing the model back to an outpost on the glacier that had a wood burning stove where we could get her warmed back up. Even so, this shoot is near & dear to my heart & I hope you love it as much as I do!
